Prior to acquisition by Centurion, the Newton Road site in Mumbles comprised an under-utilised and somewhat dated commercial/retail property that no longer met the evolving needs of the village centre. The site supported various small-scale retail units and ancillary uses, reflecting a former era of high street trading on Newton Road, yet had become tired in appearance and function.
Recognising its potential and strategic location, Centurion secured and redeveloped the site into a modern mixed-use scheme: a flagship Marks & Spencer Foodhall anchored at ground level, with nine high-quality residential apartments above. The transformation replaced the obsolete buildings with a contemporary design that sensitively reflects Mumbles’ coastal character and village setting. Since opening on 22 January 2019, the M&S Foodhall has become one of the UK’s busiest basket-store locations, underpinning the local retail offer and contributing significantly to the area’s regeneration.
